Invasion

Last spring we hung several bird feeders, two squirrel feeders and a couple of bird houses. We spent a lot of time watching the the birds and squirrels frolic in the backyard. We even participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count.

During that time, a sweet blue bird family moved into our little bird house and we watched them come and go, building their nest and tending to their young.

This past fall the squirrels decided to try to take cover in the tiny birdhouse during a thunderstorm. They chewed all around the hole to make it bigger so they could get inside.

As they continued over the winter to take cover in their new found "squirrel house" they manged to completely knock off one side of the front, but that did not stop them from continuing to use it.
Today we found the birdhouse laying in the yard instead of attached to the tree where it was supposed to be. I wonder if we leave it lying in the yard if the squirrels will still find a way to use it. ; )
